NORWITCH SPACE PLANES
6/9/2020
The Norwitch Space Plane Is a reusable shuttle for trips back and forth to the planets surface. Very similar to Earth’s early reusable shuttle it can fly and land as any plane does but can elevate it’s nose on a launch surface and blast into space using a Mag-Beam plasma thruster.
The Mag-Beam thruster concentrates its radio frequency generated plasma beams in parallel streams which, not only can lift the shuttle, but also can be maneuvered to steer the plane in any desired direction.
The Norwitch has a large cargo bay for transporting equipment and supplies or up to 10 passengers. Like any aircraft it has ailerons, rudders, flaps and landing gear but they operate outside the sealed compartments of the craft.
A ceramic-titanium alloy hull resists heat and is tough enough to withstand a certain degree of bombardment or impacts.
The Winkel has three of these craft stored alongside the center cylinder, protected from space debris during the long voyage but easily piloted out into free floating space and back again to its mooring dock. The three Norwitch Space Planes are named the Nina (little girl), the Pinta (the painted), and the Santa Maria (the captain’s flag ship), after the sea ships of Columbus’ voyages.
