SURVIVAL PLANNING
6/13/20
Every plan must be as comprehensive as possible but there are factors that limit and direct your plan. First, immediate medical needs (First Aid is always first). Next, how much time do you have to come up with a plan of action (Prioritize). Next, what are the immediate needs (Prioritize). Then what is the eventual goal (Rescue, Long term Survival, Relocation).
These initial decisions must be made quickly so the proper items can be planed for and acted on.
FIRST AIDE: Tending to the injured is critical for several reasons. They could get worse, drawing farther on supplies, time and effort. They will slow you down less if cared for. They may have to be stationed in one place and returned for when a better base is located; therefore, it will be necessary to ration shelter and supplies for the injured. (look to the chapter on First aide to supplement this step)
TIME: if you don’t have time to make a solid plan of actions the first thing you probably should plan is how to get to a place of safety to have the time. If a storm is coming you’ll need shelter. If predators are around you’ll need weapons and fortification. If there is medical emergency, communications and contact may have priority.
IMMEDIATE NEEDS: How well did you survey your situation? Are you equipped? Check your food and water supply (take inventory), medical supplies, gear, is moving to a new location in the mix or are you setting up shelter? Are there considerations to be made for temperature and weather? Think – Shelter – Water – Fire – Food – Defense
NOW plan for the future. Is your goal to be rescued? Will you be setting up a different base camp? Is this going to be long term survival (weeks, months, years)?
