WINKEL’S BRAIN

The Winkel has a “Hal” like computer operating system that takes care of all the automated functions of the ship. It controls the life support, navigation, energy production, and storage maintenance when the crew doesn’t take an active part.

The crew simply addresses the ship’s brain by calling it “computer” or simply “Winkel”. They interact with it almost as another crew member.

Winkel has optic cameras to cover all areas of the ship, inside and out. The speaker system is also ship wide and can be used to communicate with crew members as well as the ship’s brain. Winkle doesn’t make decisions only observations. Sometimes the blunt or over-detailed responses perturb the crew, especially the captain.

Winkel cannot accompany the crew outside the ship or on the planet’s surface. It can still communicate but loses many of the automated functions it has on board.

Winkel has extensive library files and stored procedural tech for almost anything imaginable. The cryogenics, engines, terraforming, medical and historical information stored in its memory is updated automatically as time goes by.
