FOLDING SPACE

In the first book, Project Gateway, Jerry, Miriam, and Dr. Carl Gates explain to the Universal Funding Board their grand plan to expand the human race’s presence out into space. They relate the new discovery that had been made in the asteroid harvest field, the mineral element Osmium-10. Osmium-10 has properties that seem to fold or compress space.
Currently the mining ships that using the new magnetic refraction engines take 6 months to make the trip out there and another six to return. The cargo load was well under a metric ton. This means that to support the needs of Earth’s current population they would need thousands of these billion-dollar ships.
They believe that using this new element they could construct some sort of short cut to the harvest fields and, for a similar amount of monies, solve the crisis of resource depletion.
The science is in its infancy and the are presented with an uphill battle both with refining the theories and with achieving the financial backing necessary to proceed.
